Caroline County is a charming community located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Home to 30,000 residents, Caroline County’s claim to fame is Meadow Farms Stables, the birthplace of esteemed racing horse Secretariat. Caroline County is home to five distinct towns: Port Royal, Bowling Green, Ruther Glenn, Milford and Woodford. Bowling Green serves as the county seat and is the largest of the five towns.

Caroline County is particularly known for its agricultural attributes. Numerous farms are located throughout the area, including many that are organic or sell specialty foods. A farmer’s market is held every summer and there are plenty of nurseries. Caroline County is also known for its sheer historic context. Settled in 1728 as a part of the Virginia Colony, Caroline County has undergone some intense historical changes. In the 20th century, Caroline County played part to many famous race horses and farms. Today, Caroline County continues to grow. It now holds the Virginia State Fair each year as well as the annual Richmond Celtic Games Festival.

The Rappahannock River Valley National Wildlife Refugee is a National protected area that protects the fish and wildlife in Virginia.
